Sleep apnea is a breathing problem, associated with the collapse of the upper airway during sleep, thus causing cessation of breathing. These individuals exhibit loud snoring, daytime drowsiness, lack of concentration, reduced performance, and fatigue due to changes in the quality of sleep. A multifaceted approach is required for its management. Dentists contribute towards its management, right from advising behavioral measures to designing intra-oral appliances and advising supplementary procedures, if needed, specific to the individual, to combat the problem and reinstate a state of positive mental and physical health.
